This Is How Australia Will Kill You — or Come Close to Doing so

Ah, Australia. The land down under gave us wonderful imports like Hugh Jackman and Crocodile Dundee (1986). But it also inhabits some of the deadliest species known to man. Each crack and crevice is alive with something that can maim, or worse yet, end you.

For one, there’s the spiders — there are close to 520 types of creepy crawlers — most of which are extremely venomous and will not hesitate to bite you, especially when you encroach their home turf. Venomous snakes live in Australia, and they will paralyze you. (If you’re not treated, you could die.)

The kangaroos in Australia may look cute and cuddly, but they can be particularly snippety — especially during mating season — and are known to punch people.

That’s just on land. The oppressive heat, especially in summer, will beckon you to take a refreshing dip in the Pacific Ocean. But beware of deadly jellyfish and shark attacks, not to mention the gigantic ocean swells that can swallow you up.

Here are several more reasons why Oz might not give you a “g’day.”
